Car sales in Russia are falling
The Association of European Businesses summed up sales in the Russian automotive market.
According to data released on June 4, for the third month of spring 2020, new car sales in the country fell 51.8% compared with May last year: the Russians bought 63,033 cars. In May 2019, 137,624 cars were sold.
“In May, we again observed a significant decrease in sales of new cars, which is not surprising, since car dealerships in Moscow, St. Petersburg and most regional dealers were closed throughout the month. We expect that in June the situation will improve slightly. The implementation of the first package of state support measures will contribute to the gradual restoration of the market in the second half of the year” - said Jörg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
According to the forecast of AEB analysts, in 2020 sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles will amount to 1.72 million units. At the same time, sales will decrease by 2.1%. On June 3, it was reported that the Volkswagen Golf was the best-selling car in Europe in January-April 2020.
